Market Reports

As of July 23, 2021

Butcher cows traded another $5 lower this week with good kill cows up to $81. With pastures burning up cull cows are coming to town across the prairies and the northern United States. Manitoba plants are purchasing southern cows cheaper than in Canada. Good young cows and heiferettes suitable to go on feed were lots lower this week as well trading from $75-90. Bulls were also lower this week with good bulls trading up to $114. Feeder cattle traded fully steady this week as good light steers and heifers continued to be in excellent demand. Yearling cattle traded $5 higher this week with good numbers to put loads together as well as good quality stock on offer. We did have 60 pairs on offer this week and they traded with a wide variance. Big cows with bigger calves traded from $2000-2250, while medium quality cows with smallish calves traded from $1500-1750. Good heifers weighing 900-950 traded in the $160-163 range. A good group of black steers out of NW Ontario weighed 748 and brought $208. Trade was very active on yearling heifers right from 600-950 pounds. Warning to producers that horns on cattle have lowered the price $10-15 on identical cattle. While pastures and feed shortages have become critical in Manitoba the corn crops in the East are looking very good so this should keep the top cut of calves active through the fall run.  Our next sheep and goat sale will be on Wednesday August 4th at 1pm.
