Market Reports

As of June 14, 2019

Butcher cows took a huge tumble this week as cows across the prairies are being liquidated due to drought. Many Saskatchewan markets saw 800-1000 butcher cows each come to market this week as pastures  just cant support them without any moisture. Our market saw top cows go from $92-94 down to $73-76 within one week.Top high yielding cows traded from $74-76. Bulls traded $3-5 lower this week as well with top bulls trading in the $1-103 range.Local and Western packers were the driving force behind the butcher market. Feeder cattle traded with a reserved trend today as few cattle were offered, and very dry conditions across the prairies have cattle feeders not wanting to pay any more than they have to in order to acquire cattle. Most grass orders have already been filled and quality has diminished as far as selection goes. Lower futures prices and high feed costs are not making feeder cattle attractive at any levels. As numbers begin to decline for the summer months our prices listed below may not be as accurate, as many classes of cattle wont be represented from week to week. We will do our best to give accurate prices for those classes not represented. If you have more questions, please feel free to call us.

Producers that leave their calves intact until spring will always be discounted for cattle that appear coarse headed or having heavy tassles that will indicate they are stags or improperly castrated. IF THEY LOOK BULLY HEADED THEY WILL BE DISCOUNTED!! CASTRATE EARLY AND PROPERLY TO AVOID BEING DISCOUNTED!! ALSO HORNED CATTLE WILL BE SORTED OFF ANY GROUPS THAT ARE GOOD ENOUGH FOR EASTERN ORDERS....THESE HORNED CATTLE COULD BRING $5 LESS THAN IF THEY WERE DEHORNED.

If there is any doubt or question on how to do it properly then please contact us and we will be happy to help!!
