Butcher cows fully rebounded this week as new all time highs were hit on good fed cows. Front end grain fed cows weighing 1700-2000 lbs traded from $251-258. Good bulls topped out at $276 this week on a monster black simmental bull. Feeder cattle hit their first bump in the road since November as a crashing futures market took its toll. The JBS plant striking in Greeley Colorado along with all the inflationary effects of the war in Iran have caused the futures to crash. Large feeding outfits follow and hedge their purchases based on the board. Most classes of feeder cattle traded $5-15 lower this week.

Horned cattle are beginning to be discounted more and more all the time. If you want your cattle to bring a premium price they must be horn free.
If you are planning on selling calves in the next month or so, please call ahead to book your cattle with us. If we know how many cattle are coming it allows us to inform buyers so they can have adequate trucks available.

A REMINDER TO PRODUCERS TO GET YOUR PREMISE ID NUMBERS FROM THE GOVERNMENT. THIS IS GOING TO BECOME MANDATORY IN 2020. ALL PRODUCERS WILL NEED TO FILL OUT MANIFESTS WHENEVER THEY TRANSPORT CATTLE FROM HOME TO EITHER AUCTION MARTS OR PASTURES. THESE MANIFESTS WILL HAVE TO INCLUDE YOUR PREMISE ID NUMBERS AS PART OF THE NEW NATIONAL TRACIBILITY PROGRAM.

Producers that leave their calves intact until spring will always be discounted for cattle that appear coarse headed or having heavy tassles that will indicate they are stags or improperly castrated. IF THEY LOOK BULLY HEADED THEY WILL BE DISCOUNTED!! CASTRATE EARLY AND PROPERLY TO AVOID BEING DISCOUNTED!! ALSO HORNED CATTLE WILL BE SORTED OFF ANY GROUPS THAT ARE GOOD ENOUGH FOR EASTERN ORDERS....THESE HORNED CATTLE COULD BRING $5 LESS THAN IF THEY WERE DEHORNED.
