Market Reports

As of April 12, 2019

Butcher cows were $5-6 lower this week as large numbers allowed buyers to be more selective and push prices down.  High yielding grain fed cows traded from $77-92 Bulls traded steady to $1 higher with a high of $108. Local and Western packers were the driving force behind the butcher market. We saw all classes of feeder cattle in excellent demand this week again. Light and intermediate weight cattle traded $2-4 higher this week as good 700 lb steers traded over $2 consistently. Good 800 lb strs traded $3-5 higher as a few reached $188. Good local, Western and Eastern support this week as larger consignments were heavily supported.

Some notable transactions included 11 charx steers weighing 654@$224.50, 10 black steers weighing 810@$191, 16 Xbred steers weighing 525@$246.50.

Good groups of quality cattle continue to bring a premium at all classes.  If you are looking at selling this week please call to let us know, so we can relay our expected numbers to the buyers, so they can have adequate trucks arranged.

Producers that leave their calves intact until spring will always be discounted for cattle that appear coarse headed or having heavy tassles that will indicate they are stags or improperly castrated. IF THEY LOOK BULLY HEADED THEY WILL BE DISCOUNTED!! CASTRATE EARLY AND PROPERLY TO AVOID BEING DISCOUNTED!! ALSO HORNED CATTLE WILL BE SORTED OFF ANY GROUPS THAT ARE GOOD ENOUGH FOR EASTERN ORDERS....THESE HORNED CATTLE COULD BRING $5 LESS THAN IF THEY WERE DEHORNED.

If there is any doubt or question on how to do it properly then please contact us and we will be happy to help!!
